My oil painting ‘The Silent Traps’, sheds light on the dangers of ghost nets—abandoned fishing nets that threaten marine life, including sea turtles, corals, dolphins, fish and impede restoration efforts. This artwork is inspired by a powerful photograph taken by the CoastalImpact team (Goa, India), which is non-profit organisation dedicated to marine conservation & coral restoration. Ghost nets—silent, unseen, and deadly—drift through the ocean, ensnaring marine life often to their end.

Seen here, in an underwater setting of the historical shipwreck of the ship SS Rita off Grande Island, is an abandoned ghost net with a trapped and lifeless orange-spotted Grouper, who has now lost its colour. Close by, a small cluster of bright corals await their fate.
